It was a life of poverty and hard work. Cattle breeding, hunting and small-scale agriculture and forestry were the only sources of sustenance. Leisure time was linked to religious traditions and festivities that created a sense of community and belonging. 

The typical architecture of the ancient settlements scattered across the slopes shows the harmonious bond between man and landscape.

The traditional cuisine has its roots in peasant life and has some characteristic features: the dishes are simple, honest and made with local ingredients. Some mountain huts offer Ladin specialities as well as haute cuisine and serve excellent wines from the region. And we wouldn’t be in Italy if we didn’t also have ice cream to eat. The Val Fiorentina and the Val di Zoldo are known for their ice cream makers.
